Monitoring GAME PLAN

My GAME plan I have mentioned that I want to continue to push technology and incorporate up to date material with Blogging.  We use a classroom blog that the students use each day.  I have found a few good sites that I can use for the students to find local area news.  Each student will find something local that they will want to get involved in.  Even if it is just writing about the news.  They will blog their findings and ideas each night while working on the project aspect of it in the class.
Some new questions have arose about how am I going to connect the blogging and project together allowing the students to choose what it is they want to learn more about.  I do not want to just give them the project.  My goal at the moment is to get the students to find something they want to learn more about  current event wise.  Most of my students are trying to find a quick easy fix and not looking deeper into what they can do

Adjustments will be made along the way.

Keep it real homies....

  1. Hi Joe,
I wonder if students can browse some online news services/magazines--and then map a concept map connecting stories to their class content. Then, they can choose a story, maybe summarize--generate some questions--maybe list some websites where classmates who share this interest could find additional information.
If a few students have the same interest, they could even create a wiki where they collect information.
    Just a bit of brainstorming.

This is an exciting project--current events provide great real world connections to concepts we cover in class.

  2. Joe,

I had a similar idea having student blog about current events. However, I am going to choose the news event instead. I think my fourth graders need more guidance and scaffolding. But I think it is a great idea for your older students to have the opportunity to choose a news event that interests them. It is a great way to differentiate an activity.
